Floating Stair Geneva
Based in Switzerland on the banks of Lake Geneva, our client discovered our floating timber stair online. He was gutting an older property and needed two flights to replace the old disintegrating timber stairs. What appealed to him about our stairs was their open nature and floating feel.
Double Flight Staircase
When doing a ‘one-above-another’ project it is imperative the staircases need to be understood and drawn together as the position of each effects the other. Headroom between the flights can be an issue as well and lining up any landing balustrade. Our client was keen to have a true cantilevered effect so installed the staircase mid way through the works and embedded the wall stringer into the wall. This was then plastered over and painted to give the effect of the treads truly floating from the wall.

Landing Balustrade
Curved Handrail
For the lower flight (the one on show), our client opted to have the curved oak handrail which swooped invitingly up the staircase. When having the curved handrail the profile is always 150 x 42mm and comes in two or three pieces which have a special joint within to allow for simply assembly.
Landing Balustrade
On the middle and upper floors we supplied matching landing balustrade to fill in the stairwell. The handrail on the landing balustrade connected up to the newel posts on the staircases. The balustrade consisted of the stainless steel spindles and oak handrail of the staircase. Careful consideration was given to ensure a sufficient knuckle gap between the horizontal handrail and the stair alongside.
